During my time as presentation director at The D.O., I created six special edition sports guides. These 8 to 12 page editions allowed me to exercise my skills in creating cohesive design systems to enhance the storytelling and visual message.

Stamp Series

Native American Medicinal Plants

Assignment

Design a four-stamp US postal service series that is rooted in and celebrates American history, culture and/or diversity.

Process

Research, conceptualize, illustrate, write copy, layout

Concept

The medicinal plants that grow across North America are essential to Native American history and folklore. Traditionally used by tribes to treat various ailments and to ceremonially ward away evil spirits, these vibrant plants demonstrate the powerful ties between humanity and nature.

Honorable Mention in the Graphis New Talent Awards 2026

Custom typeface

Assignment

Design an original, useable typeface inspired by and named for a Newhouse professor or staff member, and export it as a working .otf font file.

Process

Research, interviews, observation, conceptualization, actual glyph design (including letters, numeral, punctuation marks and symbols), kerning of letter pairs.

Concept

When it comes to research, Prof. Tim Mirabito is highly analytical, asks important questions and remains critical. The distinct angles in each gyph of Facets collectively illustrate this structured, rigid approach, and its dense weight emphasizes Prof. Mirabito's bold ideas, while funky angles evoke a lively, inviting element. Two gyphs—the o and g—contain an unexpected change in facet count and angle to add an element of surprise. This twist represents one Prof. Mirabito's other qualities: He's a father of two little girls, and his perfect day consists of spending time with them. This love of family is reflected in the glyphs' rounded corners, softening the otherwise firm design.
